A concert with the Brian McCombe Band is without question an unforgettable experience, a musical voyage charged with multiple emotions. Their music is rooted within the Irish tradition, however with the integration of Afro/Irish percussion and keyboards, plus Brian's extraordinary voice, the band will transport you into a world which is both distinctive and unique in Celtic music. Brian McCombe is considered by many people to have one of the greatest voices in the Celtic world. He has an astonishing range which can lift the roof off when in Celtic rock mode yet displays equal intensity and passion when singing the slower ballads. A journalist once wrote 'He has a voice which transcends all musical boundaries. It is almost spiritual and once heard never forgotten.' The fusion between Brian's uilleann pipes and Dominique Trichet's fiddle raises the temperature even further. Their repertoire incorporates both compositions and classic tunes from the Irish tradition. The keyboards of JC Normant give the band the depth and colour of sound which is very much 'here in the new millenium' Laurent Guillouzic has a no-nonsense approach on guitar, attacking the faster music almost as a rock guitarist would, yet shows intense sensitivity on the slower parts of the programme. The icing on the cake, if you like, is the incomparable multi-percussionist from Belfast, David 'Hopi' Hopkins. He is the pulse of the band. A man who has toured and/or recorded with the big names in Celtic music (Barzaz, Bleizi Ruz, Stivell, Squiban, Guichen, Spillane, ...) Hopi gives the band their 'Tribal' identity. A player of immense stature and dexterity. So there you have it. The Brian McCombe Band. Once heard never forgotten !!!
